Check whether it is still in service
If the tank is still supplying heat, identify the HOST tag, expiry date, approximate fuel level, and whether your fuel supplier or insurer has raised concerns.
Decide between replacement and removal
Replacement may make sense if you are staying with oil heat. Removal is common when the tank is expired, unused, leaking, or being retired during conversion.
Ask about remaining fuel
Even old tanks can contain fuel, sludge, or water. A provider can explain pump-out, transfer, or disposal options based on the condition of the contents.
